Trogus, Pompeius

, a Latin historian, was born in the country of the Vocontian Gauls, in Gallia Narbonensis, and lived in the reign of Augustus, about the beginning of the Christian sera. His father enjoyed a situation under the emperor. We know, however, nothing of the personal character of Trogus, nor should have heard of his name had not Jnstin made an abridgment of his “Universal History,” comprized in for ty- four books the editions of which are noticed in our account of that classic. 3
