BANQUET

, or Banquette, in Fortification, a little foot-bank, or elevation of earth, forming a path along the inside of a parapet, for the soldiers to stand upon to discover the counterscarp, or to fire on the enemy, in the moat, or in the covert way. It is commonly about 3 feet wide, and a foot and a half high.
