CENTAURUS

, the Centaur, one of the 48 old constellations, being a southern one, and is in form half man and half horse. It is fabled by the Greeks that it was Chiron the Centaur, who was the tutor of Achilles and Esculapius. The stars of this constellation are, in Ptolomy's catalogue 37, in Tycho's 4, and in the Britannic catalogue, with Sharp's appendix, 35.
