CEPHEUS

, a constellation of the northern hemisphere, being one of the 48 old asterisms. The Greeks fable that Cepheus was a king of Ethiopia, and the father of Andromeda, the princess who was delivered up to be devoured by a sea monster, from which she was rescued by Perseus.

The stars of this constellation, in Ptolomy's catalogue are 13, in Tycho's 11, in Hevelius's 51, and in the Britannic catalogue 35.
