COMA Berenices

, Berenice's Hair, a modern con- | stellation of the northern hemisphere; composed of unformed stars between the Lion's tail and Bootes.

It is said that this constellation was formed by Conon, an astronomer, to console the queen of Ptolomy Euergetes, for the loss of a lock of her hair, which was stolen out of the temple of Venus, where she had dedicated it on account of a victory obtained by her husband.

The stars in this constellation are, in Tycho's catalogue 14, in Hevelius's 21, and in the Britannic catalogue 43.
