EPICHARMUS

, an ancient poet and philosopher, born in Sicily, was a scholar of Pythagoras, and flourished in the time of Hiero, in whose reign it is said he introduced comedy at Syracuse. He wrote also treatises concerning philosophy and medicine; but none of his works have been preserved. He died at 90 years of age, according to Laortius, who has preserved four verses inscribed on his statue.
