NUMERATOR

, of a Fraction, is the number which shews how many of those parts, which the integer is supposed to be divided into, are denoted by the fraction. And, in the notation the Numerator is set over the denominator, or number that shews into how many parts the integer is divided, in the fraction. So, ex. gr. 3/4 denotes three-fourths, or 3 parts out of 4; where 3 is the numerator, and 4 the denominator.
