PICKET

, Picquet, or Piquet, in Fortification &c. a stake sharp at one end, and usually shod with iron; used in laying out ground, to mark the several bounds and angles of it. There are also larger Pickets, driven into the earth, to hold together fascines or faggots, in works that are thrown up in haste. As also various forts of smaller Pickets for divers other uses.
