PLATFORM

, in Artillery and Gunnery, a small elevation, or a floor of wood, stone, or the like, on which cannon, &c, are placed, for more conveniently working and firing them.

Platform

, in Architecture, a row of beams that support the timber-work of a roof, lying on the top of the walls, where the entablature ought to be raised. Also a kind of flat walk, or plane floor, on the top of a building; from whence a fair view may be taken of the adjacent grounds. So, an edifice is said to be covered with a Platform, when it has no arched roof.
