, a sect of ancient philosophers, who followed the doctrines of Pythagoras. They were otherwise called the Italic sect, from the circumstance of his having settled in Italy. Out of his school proceeded the greatest philosophers and legislators, Zaleucus, Charondas, Archytas, &c. See the article Pythagoras.
