SURSOLID

, or Surdesolid, in Arithmetic, the 5th power of a number, considered as a root. The number 2, for instance, considered as a root, produces the powers thus:

2=2the root or 1st power,
2 X2 =4the square or 2d power,
2 X4 =8the cube or 3d power,
2 X8 =16the biquadratic or 4th power,
2 X16 =32the Sursolid or 5th power.

Sursolid Problem, is that which cannot be resolved but by curves of a higher kind than the conic sections.
