Bastiat, Frédéric, an eminent political economist, born at Bayonne; a disciple of Cobden's; a great advocate of Free Trade; wrote on behalf of it and against Protection, “Sophismes Economiques”; a zealous Anti-Socialist, and wrote against Socialism (18011850).
