Coronel, Paul

, a Spanish ecclesiastic, was born at Segovia, and became eminent for his critical knowledge of oriental languages, and especially the original languages of the Holy Scriptures. He was one of the professors of the university of Salamanca, when cardinal Ximenes employed him, among other learned men, on his celebrated edition of the Polyglot Bible. He also was the author of an addition to the work of Nicholas de Lira, “De translationuni differentiis.” He died Sept. 30, 1534. 2
