GREEN

, One of the original colours of the rays of light, or of the prismatic colours exhibited by the refraction of the rays of light.

Green is the pleasantest of all the colours to the sight. And hence it has been inferred as a proof of the wisdom and goodness of the Deity, that almost all vegetables, cloathing the surface of the earth, are green; which they are when growing in the open air; though those in subterraneous places, or places inaccessible to fresh air, are white or yellow. See Chromatics, and Colours.
