1894 Brewer’s / P / Periwinkle
The bind-around plant. (Anglo-Saxon, pinewincle; French, pervenche; Latin, pervincio, to bind thoroughly.) In Italy it used to be wreathed round dead infants, and hence its Italian name, fior di morto.
