CARRIAGE

, of a Cannon, is the machine upon which it is mounted; serving to point or direct it for shooting, and to convey it from place to place.

Wheel Carriage, one that is mounted and moved about upon wheels. Horses draw in general, to most advantage, when the direction of their draft is parallel to the ground, or rather a little upwards. A carriage also goes easiest when the centre of gravity is placed very high; since then, when once put in motion, it continues it with very little labour to the horses.
