Eulogius
, the patriarch of Alexandria, a man of
learning and piety, succeeded John IV. in that office in
the year 581. He exerted himself with great effect against
the heresies of his time, and wrote an able exposition of
the orthodox faith, in a letter which he addressed to Eutychius, patriarch of Constantinople. He wrote also
against the Novatians; but of his works there are only a
few fragments remaining. He is said to have died in the
year 608. 2
