Patriot,
,—not the individual seeking personal emolument by temporary professions, nor the oppositionist who votes for supplies for the war he condemns. It is the man, “justum & propositi tenax,” who dares be honest in the worst of times; whom no threats can discourage; whom no temptations can subdue; who can behold the tide of popular opinion ebb and flow without a deriliction or principle; who can, if called upon, sacrifice even life itself for the good of his country.
