Margaret of Angoulême (14921549)

Margaret of Angoulême, queen of Navarre, Sister of Francis I., married in 1527 Henri d'Albret, king of Navarre, by whom she became the mother of Jeanne d'Albret (q.v.); protected the Protestants, and encouraged learning and the arts; she left a collection of novels, under the name of “Heptameron,” and a number of interesting letters, as well as some poems (14921549).
