Hell Gate

.

A dangerous passage between Great Barn Island and Long Island, North America. The Dutch settlers of New York called it Hoellgat (whirling-gut) corrupted into Hellgate. Flood Rock, its most dangerous reef, has been blown up by U.S. engineers.
