Aylmer, John
, was of a good family in Hampshire,
and educated at Winchester school. He then went to Oxford, and was admitted perpetual fellow of New college,
after he had served two years of a probation this was in
1652. He took his degrees in civil law, and that of doctor
in 1663. He was esteemed an excellent Greek scholar,
and a good Greek and Latin poet, as appears by a book
which he composed when a young man, entitled “Musse
Sacrse sen Jonas, Jeremia? threni, et Daniel, Graeco redditi carmine,” Oxon. 1652. He also wrote many Greek
and Latin verses, which are dispersed in various books. He
died at Petersfield, April 6, 1672, and was buried in the
church of Havant in Hampshire. 2
