Sine-cure

,—a kind of civil benefice, more numerous in England than ecclesiastical benefices are in Italy and Spain &c. no kind of worth or merit is required of the incumbents, and they are not obligated to any honest duty in return. In short, a black friar is a most useful man in comparison with a sine-cure.
