Baker, Sir Samuel White, a man of enterprise and travel, born in London; discovered the Albert Nyanza; commanded an expedition under the Khedive into the Soudan; wrote an account of it in a book, “Ismailia”; visited Cyprus and travelled over India; left a record of his travels in five volumes with different titles (18211893).
