Ellis, George (17531815)

Ellis, George, literary critic, born in London; did much to promote the study of early English literature; contributed to the Anti-Jacobin, and was joint-author of the “Rolliad,” a satire on Pitt, and of “Specimens of Early English Metrical Romances”; Scott declared him to be the best conversationalist he had ever met (17531815).
