Mignet, François August, French historian, born at Aix, settled at Paris; was a friend of Thiers; became keeper of the archives of the Foreign Office, and had thus access to important historical documents; wrote a number of historical works, among others a “History of the French Revolution,” and “History of Marie Stuart” (1796‒1884).
