Giggeius, Anthony

, a learned Italian, who flourished in the early part of the seventeenth century, was admitted to the degree of doctor by the Ambrosian college at Milan. He was author of a Latin translation of the ** Commentary of the three Rabbins on the Proverbs of Solomon,“Milan, 1620, 4to; but his better known work is his” Thesaurus Linguae Arabicse, seu Lexicon ArabicoLatinum," 1632, 4 vols. fol. As a recompence for the learning and industry which it exhibited, pope Urban VIII. nominated the author to an honourable post in a college at Rome; but he died in 1632, before he could enter upon its functions. 2
