Cannæ

The place where Hanʹnibal defeated the Romans under L. Æmilʹius Paulus. Any fatal battle that is the turning point of a great general’s prosperity is called his Cannæ. Thus, we say, “Moscow was the Cannæ of Napoleon Bonaparte.”
