Brown, John (17221787)

Brown, John, of Haddington, a self-educated Scotch divine, born at Carpow, near Abernethy, Perthshire, son of a poor weaver, left an orphan at 11, became a minister of a Dissenting church in Haddington; a man of considerable learning, and deep piety; author of “Dictionary of the Bible,” and “Self-interpreting Bible” (17221787).
